American Sniper Analysis - 1487 Words

How does Clint Eastwood generate emotional response in ‘American Sniper’ (2014) I am going to micro analyse the scene from ‘American sniper’ when Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper shoots a Taliban soldier carrying a rocket launcher and a little boy then picks it up. American Sniper is a film based on the biography of Chris Kyle (America’s most dangerous sniper), it was released in 2014 and was directed by Clint Eastwood. This essay will focus on the way that key micro features help to create a realistic film world for the viewer. The selected micro features are †¦ In the selected scene from American Sniper we see Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) laying on a rooftop glancing down on the street being an ‘overwatch’ for the American troops†¦show more content†¦The audience feel that this is the way that all snipers behave and provides them with an insight in to the emotions, or lack of emotions, that they need to become effective killers. The main sound that the audience hear throughout the scene is the heavy breathing from Bradley Cooper. This sound effect helps to increase the tension that the viewer feels and also emphasises the importance of breath control for a sniper. Anyone with any knowledge on snipers knows they take deep breaths to focus their shots and stop the sway of the rifle. The inclusion of this sound effect and the acting fit all the conventions of a sniper and make Cooper’s performance feel real. When the shot changes to a close upshot of the finger on the trigger slowly pulling it builds the tension as the viewers are left wondering whether or not he will shoot or whether the Taliban soldier will drop the weapon. The colour palette for the selected scene in American sniper is a desert yellow and dull colours for the surrounding areas. Bradley Cooper’s outfit for this scene is an American marine desert storm uniform. This is a mix between yellow and brown which blends perfectly into the set. The set in American sniper seems well thought out as the area around the cross hair is secluded and there is nothing around this creates the atmosphere that they are out in the open and the sniper can seeShow MoreRelatedArchetypal Analysis : American Sniper1003 Words   |  5 PagesAmerican Sniper: An Archetypal Analysis The movie American sniper is produced by Bradley Cooper, Clint Eastwood, Peter Morgan, Robert Lorenz, Andrew Lazar. An Effective Anti Poverty Program - 1185 Words

Social security just turned 80 years old this year and it still remains the single most effective anti-poverty program ever created in the United States. Throughout history, mankind has struggled with the welfare of the elderly and disabled. Before social security was available, many of us were unable to accumulate enough wealth to support ourselves in the later years of our lives. We would become a burden to their family and society. Most everyone will eventually grow old and will eventually not be able to continue to work and earn and income. Before man lived in organized societies there the aged and disabled were a major concern and often a burden on the family and tribe. During the Middle Age, societies began to manage the problem in varying ways. During the colonial period of American history, Poor Laws were created. They established a tax that helped support the poor and destitute in each township. Unfortunately these funds were not usually distributed fairly since the local town elders were usually in charge of determining who was and who was not worthy. This type of system lasted for a century or so until societies grew more complex. During the 1700 and 1800’s, poorhouses were created by state and local governments to provide for the poverty stricken with the basic necessities to live as well as help cover the problem. These poorhouses were intended to be as unpleasant as possible in an apparent effort to help discourage the habit of becoming poor andShow MoreRelatedThe Anti Poverty Programs And Activit ies Of International Non Governmental Organizations840 Words   |  4 Pagesthe following research question: did the anti-poverty programs and activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) contribute in achieving Goal 1 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which is to eradicate extreme hunger and poverty, in some South Asian and sub-Saharan African nations? This Unintended Pain free essay sample

Boy meets girl. Girl silently pleads for a ride home. Boy comes to the rescue. They find out they live three blocks away from each other. And then they become friends. This is the story of a senior and a sophomore. This is the story of Him and Me. But this isnt going where you think it is. And the ending is only bittersweet. That sounds dramatic, but then again, reality rarely ever is. We were co-editors on the newspaper. Well, I was an editor of the newspaper; he was my editor-in-chief, my role model, and then my ride home. During those car rides I discovered that if I am anything, I am a great listener. There’s no one better. The secret: it’s all in the details. I became his collegiate confidante, someone with whom to share his dreams. His hidden desire? To get into Harvard, something I think he had trouble admitting at first. We will write a custom essay sample on This Unintended Pain or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page But I said all the right things. I listened. I encouraged. Most of all, I believed in him. And I hope that meant something. On that magical day in December, something amazing happened. He was accepted at the most prestigious school in the United States. This opened up a realm of possibilities, mostly for him but also for me. He proved sometimes the impossible can be achieved. I still think about how happy I am for him and how inspiring he is to me. And I still ignore the diminishing number of days left of this rare and unlikely friendship. It is just too easy to be blind. Youth should be a gift, but instead it is my curse. I am forced to stay behind and to watch him leave. I can never make up for those seventeen months that separate us. I see the mocking irony that he became my friend because of college and that he will desert me for it. He was supposed to be a big brother who could give me advice, and at the same time a friend who I could always count on. But he cant be those things. It was my mistake, really. I couldnt decide which I wanted more, so I tried to make him both. Now I am left with a relationship that can be classified as neither, a relationship that falls somewhere in the crazy place between, a little bit of both, but not strong enough to be called either. I dont even know where I stand with him anymore. In fact, I never knew what he wanted out of this relationship. A friend? A sister? Both? None? It doesn’t matter if there’s a name for this, for us. Whatever it is, it’s an unbalanced bond. I am all give and very little take. He never asked for another sister, and for that assumption, I am sorry. It is a mistake I have paid for dearly because I care about him more than he will ever care about me. I am replaceable. There are a thousand others who can tell him he is special whereas he has become a rallying point for my hopeless dreams. He has almost everything I want, and I can’t just forget that. But I am being selfish. This isn’t about me. It was never about me. This is about a boy and his dream come true. This is about his happiness, and I pray that no one takes that away from him. It’s so wrong for me to be sad. How can I feel so simultaneously happy and excited and abandoned? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is where he is supposed to be. I am the one who does not belong. The sophomore among seniors. I don’t want to wait here and watch them go. I don’t deserve this unintended pain. It would be easier not to care. But it’s too late for that, too late for me. He has saved himself with his indifference. And I want him to take it all: my support, my encouragement, my admiration. He deserves it. This hurt is not his fault. I am to blame. I was the naive one. After all, it is just too easy to be blind. The only thing he owes me is goodbye. I need to hear the hollow contradiction, the not-yet-empty words. Because I’m scared. I’m frightened that he won’t need or want me anymore. I’m afraid that once he gets on that plane, he’s gone forever. And mostly, I’m terrified of the truth: I am just too ordinary to have left a permanent mark on you, my surrogate big brother, my Harvard golden boy. And now I am out of time. Forgive me, brother. I should have known. Boy leaves girl. There is no other way.
